2005 Season - Week 19

And then there were four

The NFL Divisional games saw a number of teams play most uncharacteristically. Firstly Seattle overcame the loss of the League’s MVP Shaun Alexander early in the game and then 3 turnovers to still win a playoff game. New England played an error filled game which included 5 turnovers and (whisper it) even a missed Vinatieri field goal to lose in the postseason for the first time in 11 games behind Belichick and Brady. Meantime Denver won with just 96 yards rushing. Indianapolis passed for just 109 yards through 3 quarters & their comeback over Pittsburgh failed when Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate kicker in the NFL, was well wide with a 46 field goal attempt. The final game of the weekend turned into an unexpected shoot-out as the 2nd and 3rd best defenses in the league gave up 50 combined points with home team Chicago giving up 434 yards net offence as Carolina won 29-21. And then there were four Daz’s attempt at the double came up short as Johnny provided the upset of the round 24-20. Marcus provided the comeback of the round, at one point he was down 36-15 before coming back to beat AP 37-36 behind 2 Steve Smith touchdowns. Cheryl comfortably won the Cooperbowl 34-26 and will face Johnny as the 3rd seed plays the 10th. Marcus (9th) will play the 4th seed John who thumped Mark 30-14 despite being the only winner not to have Steve Smith in his team. Teams to me by 10am Sunday please. All-BUMS Voting Time to vote for your favourite players of 2005. Attached are the top scoring players at each position. These should be with me by Wednesday February 1st so that the votes can be counted and the team can be announced at the BUMS Superbowl Party on Sunday February 5th at BUMS HQ from 10:30pm. BUMS on Seats And then there were four. The Championship games are late on Sunday night so we are splitting them over two nights. We are at Johnny’s from 8pm Sunday for a Chinese and to see live the AFC Championship game as Pittsburgh travel to Denver (9pm kick off) and we are at BUMS HQ from 6:30pm on Monday to see (off tape) the NFC decided as Seattle host Carolina. As a result the newsletter will be sent on Tuesday. SO PLEASE NO EMAILS NEXT MONDAY. Remember the Superbowl is not until the first Sunday in February (the 5th) so have a word with your boss and take Monday 6th off and come and join us for the usual Superbowl fun and games and Cheryl’s tasty morcels from around 11pm. Please let us know if you can make it so we can sort the catering. All are more than welcome.
